Timberline Knolls Supports NORMAL nonprofit

Timberline Knolls Residential Treatment Center today announced its support as a gold sponsor of NORMAL nonprofit, a national organization educating communities about eating disorders, body image and self-esteem through arts and mindfulness.

“We are so grateful to the patrons, sponsors and supporters who enable us to reach more students and families with our award-winning programs, said Robyn Hussa, MFA, E-RYT, founder and CEO, NORMAL nonprofit. “Timberline Knolls has demonstrated ongoing support of our mission and their decision to sponsor us at this level is of great assistance as we continue to grow our organization. We are trying to raise funds to do many things this year — to create two film projects: one about weight stigma which we are partnering with the National Association of Anorexia Nervosa and Associated Disorders (ANAD) and the Binge Eating Disorders Association (BEDA) organization, and another to educate female athletes.”

What began as an award-winning Off-Broadway musical (nor.mal), has become a series of programs and educational tools that have inspired youth and their families to seek treatment for eating disorders and to break the shame that surrounds mental health issues.

Timberline Knolls and Lemont Center for the Arts Host Special Community Art Exhibit

For the second consecutive year, Timberline Knolls Residential Treatment Center and the Lemont Center for the Arts are hosting a special exhibit featuring the artwork of Timberline Knolls’ residents and staff. The art exhibit, titled “Honesty,” will be open for public viewing at the Lemont Center for the Arts from July 13 through September 2, 2012. Art therapy at Timberline Knolls helps in the recovery of women and adolescent girls who are struggling with eating disorders, trauma, addiction and other related issues.

“Honesty is the first step in the 12-step recovery process and that’s why this exhibit is so meaningful for our residents,” said Melissa Rocchi MAAT, LCPC, ATR, clinical program development coordinator and manager of expressive therapies at Timberline Knolls. “Art therapy allows our residents to express themselves without using words and it helps them see things about themselves they didn’t know existed. It also helps with processing emotions they may be struggling with, so they can begin to heal.”
