Eating Disorders: Frontline Advice for Families
Family members or friends of a person suffering with an eating disorder are often surprised by the complexity of these diseases, and their effects on an entire family.
In this candid, interactive conversation, two prominent advocates for eating disorder awareness and treatment will address some of the most important questions facing those seeking to prevent eating disorders, or to support a loved one through anorexia or bulimia.
- What should family members say or not say to a loved one who is showing signs of anorexia or bulimia?
- How can parents or siblings separate their loved one from the eating disorder?
- When should you seek professional treatment for eating disorders?
- What are the biggest misconceptions families and friends have about eating disorders?
Even if you haven’t been personally affected by an eating disorder in your family, chances are you know someone who has – though they may have kept their struggle private. This workshop is designed not only for families currently suffering with a loved one’s eating disorder, but for others seeking to educate themselves about how to recognize the signs and symptoms, and to be a source of support.
